October Blog - Pastor Steve and Vi Dollar Missionary Trip to Uganda
It’s Okay, a message for Uganda
On Wednesday 19th September at 11:00 am, the plane that flew Rev. Stephen Dollars and mama Viola landed on the African red soil of Uganda, Joy filled me when I saw them exiting the arrival area to meet me and Ivan. Ivan is now in the training process of being our Resident Pastor for the church that is to start next year. We were all happy and filled with gladness and joy to see our dream come true.
For all that have never been to Africa, its the longest flight from the USA crossing the giant and amazing natural wonders of the world, across, the terrains, rift valleys, the jungles, and mighty rivers and great oceans.
It was a wonderful afternoon to receive such a great man in the kingdom of God and little did i know about how the rest of the days ahead would change my life, the people of Uganda as well as the body of christ.
A good rest was much needed for both so they would prepare for longer ministerial days ahead, but later in the evening we enjoyed our first meal( dinner) at the famous eating place called Cafe Javas.
After a good rest, the days that followed were coupled with visits to the main capital city of Kampala, where we first attended the consecration ceremony of one of my wonderful friends and a fellow servant of the Lord, Felix. We then wrapped up the Sunday as Rev Stephen preached at the Revival Church in Gayaza which is a two hour drive from the main capital city. Pastor Okello hosted us as Rev Stephen preached a great sermon entitled “Its Okay”. Part of the message included his personal testimony, how the Lord worked through his life in dangerous times that were meant to kill him, destroy him with debts, but amazingly all that he went through gave him a purpose to live and God was exalted when he renewed his strength, His life was recovered, debts paid, and the long dream achieved that brought him to Africa. The message blessed lives of many which at this time of my writing, many still testify how they were encouraged and uplifted in faith because of the word. Rev. Stephen carried this message “Its Okay” to the rest of other meetings since the Lord had instructed him to share it because it was a message for the people of Uganda.
The following week, our village evangelism efforts began. We went to Luweero where we visited the government school and engaged the school Principle who shared the difficulties in running the school. He revealed how the poor communities could not pay school fees for the children because of high poverty levels, and the lack of available resources that are a necessity to have children attend school. The majority of the children in this school come from poor families and some are orphans. We visited the classes and a brief school tour.
We proceeded Again with our visit to one of the longest serving ministers of the Gospel in this village who is respected because of his hard work that runs back many years ago when our country Uganda experienced civil wars. This village was the base for the rebel group that brought into power the current president of Uganda. As a result of the war, lives were killed, and this brought about orphans and several diseases. Pastor Gideon welcomed us and shared his story and how he came to this village. He then took us to several other homes of the elderly people he was supporting. Rev Stephen was able to provide funds for a roof for An elderly woman who didn’t have money to complete the last step of roofing the House. This surprise gift to the old woman brought tears of joy and leading her to pray blessings.
In addition we were able to bless pastor Gideon’s village with some of the basic items we had brought to him that will help take care of his people and his family. He also operates a school and attributed it’s existence through prayers, hard work and committed community people who helped to construct it.
We also moved to the next village where I had planted the church during one of my many missionary efforts in the various parts of the country. We were welcomed with young boys and girls that we found inn class aged 3 years thru 6 years. They sang songs to us and then later we visited the church on this ground where we found a little girl called Esther who was bound in chains because of evil spirits that attacked her in the early days of her life. From the tiime she was 6 years old. The spirits could throw Esther into fire, they would make her violent and strong and able to resist anyone who would approach her in helping her get better.
Pastor Steve felt the need to pray for Esther and as soon as the prayers were finished, Esther began to speak and shared her dreams of going to school. We were happy to see her being untied and seeing her smile.
After a day of rest, we visited another village thats about 4 hours drive from the capital city where we met other children in one of the poor schools in the community, pastor Stephen shared a word of encouragement to the staff and the children. We also had a school tour before we moved to another home where the parents of the school teacher lived. She walked three hours to and from the school each day. This village tour revealed so many things that were unknown as such the people in this village were amazed to see white people for the first time in their community. The kids enjoyed so much playing with pastor Stephen. We prayed for the old man and woman that we visited, and surprisingly they blessed us with matooke which is a local famous type of food thats cooked in every home. This was a gift of appreciation and a custom that is always done for every visitor. By this time of the day, it was already evening and everyone was extremely exhausted. The bad roads of the villages almost wore everyone out. In the car, we were able to ferry about 30 kids in our mini van because these kids walk about 4 hours or more each day to school. We helped them by providing transport and they were glad since some have never got a chance to step into a car.
Over that weekend, we visited the famous cultural Centre that provided entertainment and rich African history that was presented through dances of each culture, and kingdom in Uganda. The evening was very thrilling as well. In the same week, I was blessed to be united in Holy matrimony as pastor Stephen joined us on this beautiful evening along the shores of lake Victoria as the sun was setting.
What an incredible evening of love, we had a cake cut, gifts presented and later a wonderful time at the Hotel.
As the week came to and end, pastor Stephen visited the craft village and was able to see wonderful amazing African custom made materials starting from cups made from cows horns to several other fabrics made from a variety of natural things.
The following week, Rev Stephen shared the message of i”Is Okay” to miracle church in Entebbe with our Host pastor Florence. He preached as never before Later on, after his message, people asked that he comes back next year and promised to pray about that. Later Pastor Stephen and mama Vi agreed that the Lord had spoken to them and they would be back next year if the Lord provided.
Uganda was blessed by the visit of Rev Stephen Dollar and personally many things happened in my life, on the last day the PHH team held a meeting where we talked about the future, and the next steps that we will walk as we carry on the vision and dream of PHH forward.
